Abstract
The title of this paper is The Situation in Shakespere’s As You Like It. This paper tries to analyze and discuss about the situtuations in a drama which was taken from a drama entitled As You Like It by Shakespeare.The theory applied to support the paper is the theory about Situation primarily taken fromThe Colledge Writers Guide to the Study of Literature by Reaske (1970). According to Reaske situation is overall makeup and often provides the genesis of the action. Method of research applied in this paper consist of three steps, they are: data source, data collection and data analysis. The data source in this paper taken from the drama As You Like It by Shakespeare. The data collected by observation method through reading the drama repeatedly and intensively, finding the statement that reflect of situation of setting and character. The data collected were analyzed descriptively based on the theoryy of situation methods proposed by Reaske. Based on the analysis, the situations found in this drama mainly consist of twokinds, such as setting situations and situations of characters. Situations of settingsfound include two aspects; those are situations of the place settings and situations of time settings. The situations of the place settings which are found in this drama are of: (1) the orchard garden that is presented in a beautiful and noise situation, (2) the wrestling place that is presented in a romantic situation. (3) the end of the situation setting place is in the forest that is presented in a calm situation. Then, the situations of the time settings narrated in this drama are the situation of: (1) the short day time of Rosalind given by Duke Frederick to leave his court, (2) the last situation of time setting is the good time of Rosalind, Celia, and Touchstone to arrive in the Forest of Arden in the evening, Further, the situations of the characters told in this dramatic work are those of the major and minor characters. The situations of the main character which are described in this drama are the situation of: (1) the main character’s careful attitude when she defends Orlando, (3) the main character to have fall in love with Orlando so deeply, (4) the main character’s unhappy feeling when she thought her banished father. The situations of the minor character which are described in this drama are the situation of: (1) the stronger minor character’s performance when he won the wrestle competition, (2) the minor character’s careful attitude when he went to get food for Adam, (3) the minor character’s brave attitude when he fought with lioness to save Oliver’s life,
