Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of how biochar placement and dose and also its interaction on the growth and production of sweet corn. This experiment is a faktorial experimental with basic design using an incomplete randomized design. The treatment consists of two factors: placement way (P) and biochar dose (B). The first factor is how the placement of fertilizer (P) as follow: P1 = Spreading, P2 = Lining, and P3 = Spotting. The second factor, the Biochar dose (B) consists of 3 levels of dose and one control: namely: B0 = treatment without biochar as the control, B1 = Biochar 5 tonnes/ha dose, B2 = Biochar with 10 tonnes / ha dose, B3 = Biochar with 15 tonnes/ha dose. Thus, there were 10 combinations treatments and each treatment was repeated three times, so there are 30 experimental plots. The results showed that the fresh cob weight per heaviest plant obtained in the treatment of spotting placement, namely 211.89 g increased 38.59% when compared to spreading placement which was 152.89 g. This was also in lining with the results of the fresh weight of 100 seeds per plant that showed the highest value obtained in spotting placement of biochar treatment, namely 27.56 g, which has an increase of 18.13% when compared to spreading placement with was 23.33 g. The result of the heaviest of the fresh weight of 100 seeds per plant was biochar dose treatment obtained at 15 tonnes/ha which was 26.78 g, increased 15.33% and also increased 43.44% when compared to the lowest biochar dose which was 23.22 g and 18.67 g of biochar control. The result of the regression analysis between the biochar dose and the fresh weight of 100 seeds showed a linear relationship with the equation: Ŷ = 19.58 + 0.5379 X with coefficient of determination (R2) amount 77.50%.
