Abstract
This research explains semiotics analysis toward Kawen Sai ceremony’ sign in Tetun Tribe, Lo’okeu Village, Belu Regency. Theobjective of this research are to describe how is the sign and meaning KawenSai ceremony’ sign of Tetun tribe in Lo’okeu Village. This research uses semiotic theory by Pierce in Art (1993). Qualitative research is used as research design in this research. The data of this research is obtained from the observation result and interview with the informant by recording technique. There are 10 persons the informants in this research. The method and technique of data collection were consisted of observation and conversation technique. The result of data analysis showed that there are 36 signs of Kawen Sai ceremony’ sign in Tetun tribe which consists of: symbols such as fos ‘beras’ fahi ran ‘darah babi’, tua ulun ‘sopi kepala’, murak ‘perak’, hitire ‘mahkota wanita’, tais bata rata ‘selendang’, taha ‘parang’, biti ‘tikar’, tua na’i‘om kandug’, ria ‘ipar’, aikalete ‘juru bicara’, makoan ‘penutur adat’, nu wen ‘air kelapa’, lesu ‘destar’ riti ‘gelang tangan’, morten ‘manik-manik’, karabu ‘anting-anting’, badlima ‘gelang kaki’, bolas ‘ikat pinggang’, kaebauk ‘mahkota laki-laki’, dadasan murak ‘sisir perak’, sasukun ‘tusuk konde’, kakaluk‘ tas kecil pria’, tala ‘gong’, heuk ‘tarian likurai’, belak ‘perhiasan leher’, fuik no bua ‘sirih pinang’ hare ‘padi’, kadeli ‘cincin’, kabas metan ‘benang hitam’, babarak makerek ‘dulang’, tais ‘kain adat’, koba ‘tempat sirih pinang’. The 36 signs are imply 6 meanings they are: sacral and ritual meanings, manners meaning, mastery and honor meaning, request and hope meaning, social meaning, and communication meaning.
