Abstract
Nowadays finding on alternative resources of such materials become important when demand for organic fertilizer is increasing. Hospital wastewater is one of the alternatives potentially used as material for organic fertilizer, due to highly content of proteins, carbohydrates and fats. For safety usage, the hosptital wastewater must have been refined using biological technology. The research was conducted to study and analyze the wastewater of Sanglah General Hospital Centre (RSUP Sanglah) using Biodetox biological technology and the responses of chinese cabbage (Brassica juncea L.) to the products of that technology. Qualitative (descriptive) and quantitative (values, statistic analyzes, mathematic and comparative approach) methods were used in this research. Three stages of research conducted were (1) technological process identification, (2) measurements of the quality, characteristics and number of components in hospital wastewater and (3) plant response test to the products of technology. Materials used in this research were wastewater samples of Sanglah General Hospital Centre, products of Bidetox technology and seeds of chinese cabbage (B. juncea L.). The research was conducted at RSUP Sanglah and Warmadewa University Glasshouse from 15 May 2009 to 10 April2012. Results of the research indicated that biological treatments given at the treatment and stabilization levels i.e. 6-9 hours aeration; 0.24-0.250 g/BOD/day/g/MLSS F/M; 8.2 days wastewater staying-time and 35% of water pressure (sludge resirculation) had met the standard of quality of Department of Health of Republic Indonesia(Permenkes RI Nomor 416/MENKES/PERIIX/1990) and standard for irrigation water quality (Gol D.) (Kepmen KLH No.02/MENKLHII988). Characteristics of wastewater which consisted of 1.97% nitrogen, 0.78% phosphor, 0.33% sulphur, 0.48% potassium, 0.19% magnesium, 326 ppm ferrum, 211 ppm aluminium, 18.8 ppm mangan, 2,18 ppm molybdenum, had met the criteria and standard for fertilizer materials. The products resulted from Biodetox technology gave 19.90% and 17.35% higher leaf and plant total fresh weights of chinese cabbage compared to those of commercial Biosugih organic fertilizer and Hyponex chemical fertilizer. It is concluded, the products of Biodetox technology on the RSUP Sanglah wastewater have been proved to be safely used for organic fertilizer materials.
