Abstract

This study e ntitled “ Interrogative Sentences in Novel DR. Thorne by Anthony Trollope ”, it is ma inly focused on the analysis of the type s of interrogative sentence w hich include s the yes - no interrogative sentence and the wh - interrogative used in the novel DR. Thorne. The data in this writing are taken from an English novel entitled DR. Thorne by Anth ony Trollope 1960 . The process of collecting data for this study is considered to be library research. The data are analyzed by using descriptive method. Based on the findings, there are two t ypes of interrogative sentences found in the data source belong to yes – no interrogative and wh – interrogative. The yes - no interrogativ e c an be further classified into: positive yes - no interrogative, negative ye s - no interrogative, tag interrogative, declarative yes - no interrogative an d yes - no interrogative with modal aux iliary. And there are four functions which found in the novel DR. Thorne, there are: interrogative function as asking for information, confirmation, request and offering.
